Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

In this tutorial I will teach you how to convert a picture into a sketch which can be used in sketch books. Step 1: We will use the photograph below for our tutorial.

Photoshop

Step 2: Duplicate copy of the Background by Selecting the Duplicate Layer Option from the Layer Menu. We do this just in case any mistake is done then we do not end up ruining the original Image.

Photoshop

Step 3: Convert the background into layer by Layer via Copy option in the Layer Menu. We should make a copy so that if we go wrong at any point we have an image to start a fresh from.

Photoshop

Step 4: We will convert the photograph into grayscale by selecting the Desaturate option from the Image.

Photoshop

Step 5: At this point we will make another copy of the grayscale photograph.

Photoshop

Step 6: Convert the Image into a negative by selecting the invert option from the Image Menu as shown below.

Photoshop

The image will look some thing like given below.

Photoshop

Step 7: Now select the Color Dodge option from the Blending Mode Menu in the Layer Palette. This will make the image completely disappear.

Photoshop

Step 8: We will get the sketch of the image by selecting the Gaussian blur option from the Filter Menu.

Photoshop

Now as you will move the Radius slider in the Gaussian Blur dialog box toward the right we will see the sketch of the photograph reappear.

In the Dialog Box which appears, select Duotone in Type and then double click on the color boxes to set the colors.

Note that the color of Ink 2 should be lighter than Ink 1.I have chosen my set of colors but do not hesitate to experiment with your combinations of green.
